A group of men singing ‘You Raise Me Up’ in the mountains will give you chills.

College singers from BYU’s Vocal Point elevate Josh Groban’s hit, “You Raise Me Up,” to new levels with their acapella performance.

Without instruments, their vocal skills highlight the lyrics and deeply engage the audience, adding fresh energy to this inspirational song.

In 1991, BYU students Dave Boyce and Bob Ahlander started the nine-member acapella group BYU Vocal Point. The group quickly became popular on campus, and their first concert sold out.

BYU Vocal Point’s Rise to Acapella Stardom

Since starting out, BYU Vocal Point has won many awards, including finishing fifth in NBC’s The Sing-Off’s third season. In December 2018, they shared on social media that they signed a record deal with Decca Gold, a part of Universal Music Group. Member Jason Bromley said, “We’re ordinary college students doing extraordinary things.”

“You Raise Me Up” Music Video: A Beautiful Vocal Experience

The video for “You Raise Me Up” features beautiful mountains and valleys. It begins with one clear voice, then another joins in harmony, creating a rich, layered sound. The group’s bright and pure voices are enhanced by impressive vocal percussion.

As the singers move through the mountain landscape, their version of the song becomes an immersive experience. The peaceful setting enhances the music, showing how it can transport the listener to another place.

A Unique and Harmonious Performance

The singers’ harmonies blend so well that it’s hard to tell the lead singers apart. Their version of this popular song is refreshingly original, not just a copy of the original.
