Ahead of Father’s Day, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay—who is most known for hosting and judging cooking shows—took to X to share with fathers of all ages the details of a recent bike accident that left him battered and injured.
“I’d like to share a very important message with you all. You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Ironman [races] etc and this week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident and it really shook me and honestly I’m lucky to be here,” said Ramsay.
Ramsay,57, believes that his helmet is what kept him alive.
“I don’t care how short the journey is,” he continued. It doesn’t concern me. Although expensive, these helmets are essential. Children must always wear a helmet, even on short trips.”
Ramsay was riding his bicycle when the accident occurred in Connecticut approximately a week ago, and it has had a negative impact. During the little more than minute he spoke, Ramsay’s hands trembled.
“Now, I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it,” Ramsay went on to explain. “I’m doing [okay], and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses, and staff at @LMHospital (Lawrence and Memorial Hospital) who looked after me. I’m most thankful for my helmet, which saved my life.”
In the minute and eleven-second video, Ramsay raised his shirt to show off a large bruise on his torso at about the 49-second mark.
Ramsay posted a picture of the helmet from the collision on Facebook.
“My helmet post-accident,” posted Ransay, along with a photo of the black helmet used during the accident. Chunks of styrofoam material were missing along the front of the helmet.
