Whatever happens, mothers will do anything to protect their children. Do you agree with this?
Phyllis Pena returned to her Lake Jackson, Texas, home shortly after 7 a.m. and noticed a man peering through her 15-year-old daughter’s window.
Pena immediately called the police.
The man, identified as Zane Hawkins, 19, fled, but police were able to catch up with him.
Hawkins attempted another escape when the police, Pena, her daughter, and the police were all outside.
But Pena was not going to let that happen. On her watch, no way.
Pena was caught on camera tackling Hawkins by an officer’s dash cam.
“It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody,” said Sgt. Roy Welch.
Pena put herself in danger by tacking the suspect, but she would do it again.
“My kids are my life and just making sure I protect them.”
Hawkins was arrested and charged with drug possession, fleeing arrest, and resisting arrest.
