Divorce is never easy, no matter what the circumstances are. When Amy Roloff divorced her husband, Matt Roloff, things were very intense. Now years after the divorce, she is finally breaking her silence on the entire episode.
Amy Roloff starred on the show Little People, Big World with her ex-husband Matt Roloff for quite a few years. The couple got divorced in 2016, and now the reality star has opened up on what her relationship with Matt has been like since then.
She gave an exclusive interview in which she talked about the experience. The 61 year old reality star gave an inside into what the upcoming season of the show would be like and her own personal growth that will be evident in the show. It has been seven years since views saw her tense divorce with 62-year-old Matt Roloff.
“I think one of the things you see is me changing and just being with Matt,” Amy said of the upcoming season. She shared how Chris Malek, and Matt’s fiancée, Caryn Chandler both helped the situation a lot. Amy remarried to Chris in 2021 while Matt has been engaged to Caryn since 2023.
“Just being with Matt and Caryn, we get involved in a big fundraising event with an organization that means a lot to me,” Amy shared, adding some context to a storyline from season 25. This marks a significant milestone in her relationship with her ex-husband because she admitted she did not “want anything to do with Matt” for quite some time.
However, in this interview she admitted that she might have had some things to work on and now that she has, she has realized the mistakes she has made as well.
“But then it’s like, ‘Well, Amy you built up this wall, but who’s this wall keeping out? Is it you? Or is it him and he could care less?’” Amy lamented. “So I think with Chris’ help — Chris has been a great help to bring that wall down — and say, ‘You know, he’s still the father of my kids, still the grandfather of my kid.’ We — or should say I — should get along with Matt and Caryn.”
The couple had been married for nearly 30 years marriage, and she is the first to admit that they still have a long way to go before being able to resemble anything like they did when they were married.
“I mean, we’re not gonna be best friends but we enjoy our time, we had a focus, we accomplished something really great,” Amy said, talking about the event they executed together. “We still get together as family too so it’s — to me, it really just tells a story about a family that’s continued to grow, continue to change. But I think the ultimate element of the whole thing is but we’re still family.”
“We may say things, we may do this, you know, some tense moments and stuff but, you know, in the end, we’re family,” she said.
Malek also shared how the couple has developed a sort of friendship with Matt and Caryn.
“It took a while to get there and it’s, you know, the old expression ‘time heals’ and we’ve gotten to that point now where Matt and Amy have moved on to other and better relationships,” he said. “We actually, you know, get together once in a while too — Matt, Caryn, Amy and I hang and we have good laughs and good conversations.”
“Unfortunately, I’ve witnessed some really nasty divorces where two couples ended up hating each other when they were done and I’m so glad that we’re not in that situation,” he ended.
