Sandra Bullock claims that when she confessed to never having had either truffles or champagne, Keanu Reeves once surprised her with both.
Sandra Bullock is remembering a good act made by Keanu Reeves.
Bullock, then fifty-seven, and Reeves first met on the Speed set in 1994.
On set, the two hit it off right away. The actress told Esquire that during a conversation about truffles and champagne, Bullock once mentioned that she had never tried either.
Reeves asked, “Really?,” to which Bullock replied, “No, never had ’em.” The two then seemed to have gone on to something else.
A few days later, she told the magazine, Reeves showed up on his motorcycle when she and her roommate were doing nail painting at home.
Bullock rang the doorbell and opened it to find a nice surprise. She told Esquire about Reeves’s arrival, which included truffles, Champagne, and roses.
“I just thought you might want to try Champagne and truffles to see what it’s like,” he said to Bullock as he entered and sat on the couch while she poured Champagne and opened the truffles.
When the actor reached out for her, Bullock allegedly went so far as to paint Reeves’ nails black—the same hue she was wearing herself.
Bullock said, “He listens,” to Esquire. And it moves. Individuals. Absurd.
According to Bullock, Reeves had a date and did not linger for long after delivering the truffles and Champagne.
Bullock praised her co-star’s listening skills, saying that they were on full display in his thoughtful gesture.
“That’s what I mean that it drives you crazy,” she told Esquire. “When I first met him, I would spend as much time as I could filling a silence, just to feel comfortable. And the more I jibber-jabbered on, the quieter he would get.
“And I thought, I don’t understand what’s happening!,” she continued. “He’s looking at me with eyes of confusion. He’s quiet. Did I say something to offend him? And then a day or two later, he would arrive with a note or a little package, saying, ‘I thought about what you said.’ And he would have his response.”
Bullock interjected, asking, “How many people do you know like that?”
Bullock maintained that she and Reeves never dated, despite his romantic gesture that day; she did, however, imply that the two may have been a nice pair.
Furthermore, Bullock shared with Esquire her belief that a romantic relationship between herself and Reeves “could have survived” had they done so.
“Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated,” she explained. “I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know.”
She added, “But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being.”
“Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not,” Bullock said.
