Shannon Wilcox, a character actor, died at the age of 80. The Hollywood actor died on September 2 in Los Angeles, according to Legacy.com. She is survived by her two children, Kelli Williams, a fellow actor, and Sean Doyle, a writer-producer.
Shannon began her career in modest appearances on Starsky and Hutch (1976-77), Hawaii Five-O (1978), and Mrs Columbo (1979) before moving on to the big screen, amassing over 75 credits over 46 years. In The Karate Kid (1984), the actress played Mrs Mills, the mother of Ali Mills (played by Elizabeth Shue).
Shannon was a longtime collaborator with the late Gary Marshall, appearing in a number of his films, including Runaway Bride (1999), The Princess Diaries (2001), and The Princess Diaries 2 (2004).
Shannon went on to land a 19-episode arc on Buck James (1987-88), in which she co-starred with Dennis Weaver, before being cast as Anita in Dallas (1990).
Shannon is well known to fans of the NCIS franchise for her role as Mrs. Roach in season eight of the original NCIS (2011), which was hosted by Mark Harmon, as well as its spin-off show, NCIS: Los Angeles (2016), in which she played the character of Summer.
Shannon has joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as Irene Sholman for the 2020 episode ‘Save the Last Dance for Me’, one of her final TV appearances.
The late actor was no stranger to Hollywood, as he was routinely spotted at red carpet events and film premieres. Her second husband, character actor Alex Rocco, was frequently around her. From 2004 until his death in 2015, the couple were married.
Alex rose to international prominence as the villain Moe Green in The Godfather (1972), Thorny in A Bug’s Life (1998), and John Exstead Sr. in The Division (2001-2004). Shannon had been married to plastic surgeon John Williams from 1965 to 1984 before meeting Alex.
Following the news of Shannon’s death, fans paid tribute on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Alex Rocco’s widow, Shannon Wilcox, rest in peace.” When he and I were discussing my helping him with his memoir, she and Rocco graciously welcomed me to their home. “She seemed like a nice lady, and I know Rocco adored her,” one said.
