This veteran’s story is truly heartbreaking.
This veteran’s story is quite inspiring. When a news crew learned about the situation he was in, they recognized they could and should help him. The Fox 5 Surprise Squad visited the neighborhood of Albertsons on a sunny day in Las Vegas.
Because they wanted to do something unique for the residents, they chose random clients and paid for their groceries.
The team was led by Dave Hall. He approached numerous folks who were about to leave.
Every time he asked if he could pay for their groceries, it made their day.
They regularly stepped in and paid for strangers’ purchases. The employees noticed the staff serving random customers and advised them of the regulars who needed the most help. One of the cashiers was on the edge of crying. She was pleased and grateful to see these gestures of kindness brightening everyone’s day. Finally, Dave presented himself to Stephanie. She was a disabled veteran. She moved about in a wheelchair. Stephanie stated that she was buying food for herself and her pets.
She was severely struggling because she didn’t have much financial help. She confessed to Dave that she had spent her last $50.
She had no idea what she was going to do after that.
The news caster was overjoyed to assist. Stephanie was overjoyed that he covered the entire cost of the materials. Dave noticed the person behind her.
“Is this your husband?” he inquired.
The man was actually a friend of her husband’s.
This man, Larry, was another veteran from the same club as Stephanie’s husband.
Bones For Blankets was a club that focused on donating blankets to homeless soldiers.
Larry founded the charity 16 years before after sadly losing three of his brothers.
They’d all died of frostbite. Larry’s experience reinforced the importance of sharing resources.
He added that Stephanie’s husband was a truck driver who was frequently away from home, so he kept Stephane company and helped her get by given the difficulties she encountered as a result of her condition.
“No veteran should be going through what she’s going through,” Larry said to the Surprise Squad.
That could have been it, but Dave Hall was certain that Larry wouldn’t leave the store without the Surprise Squad crew paying for his groceries as well.
Larry had simply intended to buy dish soap and candies, but Dave informed him, “You served us. It is now our job to help you.”
So Larry was allowed to wander around the store and choose whatever he wanted. Larry was left wiping tears from his eyes after Dave and the others settled his tab, which came to $278.
“This is just like overwhelming, I’ve been taking care of myself since I was 13,” Larry went on to say.
