A slapstick and cheeky brand of British humor was introduced to the globe by The Benny Hill Show. It was a syndicated smash on American TV for more than ten years and broadcast on British television for more than thirty years.
The show had many double entendres, absurd chase scenes, quirky buffoonish characters, and of course the incredibly endearing Benny Hill. As British as tea and cookies, his show was. Unlike Monty Python, which had more sophisticated humor, it offered quips and gags to audiences that didn’t take an Oxford doctorate to understand.
Even though a lot of the material was very crude, Hill became one of the most well-known entertainers in the world thanks to his distinct style of humor.
