Jenine-Lacette DShazer noticed an elderly man living on the streets in the bitter weather, cradling his puppy in his arms. She couldn’t help herself; she felt compelled to approach him and exchange a few words with him, unaware that something extremely significant would occur even for her!

When he spoke with the man, he discovered his name was Clifford James Herbert and his dog’s name was Baby. Then she heard a story that rocked her…

Cliff used to work on a farm and run his own repair business, but after losing his job in 2006, he took to the streets. The cause was not his fault: he had so many heart and neck surgeries that he was unable to work. The elderly gentleman had cancer and just had a few weeks to live.

Cliff then started telling her about Baby, the dog he had rescued from a cruel owner who was hitting him with a flashlight. They kept each other company and slept in each other’s arms to stay warm at night.

At the end of the conversation, the guy couldn’t help himself and begged the nice stranger who had stopped to talk to him to fulfill a dying man’s final wish: he wanted her to find Baby a new home.

Jenine-Lacette, on the other hand, realized she had to help them both, so she launched an Internet campaign, donated funds for the two, and took them off the streets.

She also captured some awful images of them struggling to endure a harsh winter and a terrible life. She found another home for Baby, complete with a loving family and a little girl who couldn’t wait to be his lover; in addition, he accommodated Cliff in a hotel, making his last days as beautiful as possible!
