Danielle Davison, then nine months old, was saved from a house fire many years ago by a firefighter by the name of Mike Hughes. But this isn’t the only happy ending for a narrative that is already inspiring.
A sizable portion of the house was already on fire when we got there. Mike remembers finding Danielle curled up in her crib in the bedroom.
He wanted to know what had happened to the youngster he had spared that year, so he followed up with her a few years later. After seeing her on Facebook, he sent her a message saying, “I believe I once pulled you out of a fire when you were still a very small girl.” After that, they kept in touch, and Mike started to act as Danielle’s second father.
Danielle asked Mike, who she considered a close friend and one-time savior, to her graduation ceremony 17 years after the fire at her house.
When Mike heard Danielle say, “Mike’s presence here is really important to me,” during the ceremony, he started crying. Every time I consider how different things could have been, I cry with joy. Without you, I would not be here.
