The ‘Suddenly Susan’ star revealed she suffered a seizure in September.
Brooke Shields told Glamour that she was brought to the hospital in September after suffering a grand mal seizure, and that she was joined by Bradley Cooper during the trauma.
Brooke told the journal for their US Woman of the Year edition, “I was waiting for an Uber.” I go down to the bottom of the steps, and I start visibly looking funny, and [those I was with] were like, ‘Are you okay?’. I stroll inside L’Artusi and approach the sommelier who had just spent an hour watching my run-through.
“When I walk in, two women approach me; I don’t know who they are.” Everything begins to darken. Then my hands drop to my sides and I collide with the wall headfirst. “I begin to have a grand mal seizure.”
The actress went on to say that she began “frothing at the mouth,” had turned “completely blue,” and was attempting to swallow her tongue before losing consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she stated that she was on oxygen and had been accompanied by Hollywood A-lister Bradley Cooper, who had been summoned by an assistant when staff were unable to contact Brooke’s husband, Chris Henchy.
Brooke’s co-star in the 2008 film ‘The Midnight Meat Train,’ Bradley, was with her during her hospital stay and when she was moved to the ICU where doctors fitted her with a catheter and IV drip.
Brooke claimed that physicians believed her seizure was caused by drinking too much water and not eating enough salt. Brooke recovered completely and even made it to the opening night of her one-woman show, which began on September 12.
A grand mal seizure, also known as a tonic-clonic seizure, is often caused by epilepsy, but it can also be caused by very low blood sugar, a high fever, or a stroke, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is uncommon for this sort of seizure to reoccur, but those who do must take anti-seizure medication on a daily basis.
Brooke has had various health issues over the years, including breaking her right femur after falling from a balance board in 2021, which required her to relearn how to walk.
