German-born American actor Christian Oliver had a 30-year career that included roles alongside George Clooney and Tom Cruise.
In a plane crash off the shore of a Caribbean island on Thursday, he and his two daughters perished.
Oliver (born Christian Klepser) and his girls were in a single-engine plane when it took off at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time from an airport on Bequia, a small island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, according to the police.
The aircraft was headed to the neighboring island of St. Lucia when it experienced some technical difficulties early in the journey and eventually crashed into the water, according to the Royal St. Vincent and Grenadines police force.
Four passengers’ remains were found on board the aircraft by military authorities after divers, fisherman, and coast guard personnel raced to the scene of the disaster.
According to the police, Robert Sachs, the owner and pilot of the aircraft, Oliver, 51, and his daughters Annik and Madita Klepser, ages 10 and 12, were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Oliver, his kids, and Sachs, who resided in Bequia, were transported by boat to a neighboring morgue by the coast guard. Autopsies would be performed on Friday to determine the cause of death.
Following the actor’s tragic accident on Thursday, a large number of people expressed their sympathies to his family and friends. The actor had just wrapped up filming his final sequences for the upcoming film Forever Hold Your Peace, according to Deadline.
Nick Lyon, the director of Forever Hold Your Peace, honored Oliver by sharing a photo of the late actor on their final day of filming on Instagram late on Thursday night.
“We talked about producing a film together for years and finally did it,” Lyon wrote in her post. In addition, he mentioned that he and Oliver have collaborated on five projects. “I appreciate you being such a wonderful friend, actor, and coworker.”
He co-directed the film Forever Hold Your Peace with Bai Ling. Oliver was praised on Instagram by Ling, who described him as “such a brave actor and a beautiful person.”
Oliver passed away while on vacation, according to Ling, who also remarked, “Life [is] so beautiful yet so unpredictable and so precious.” Let’s enjoy and love every moment of our lives.
Oliver’s first job as an actor was in 26 episodes of the show Saved by the Bell: The New Class in 1994. From 2006 to 2008, he played parts in The Good German with George Clooney and Cate Blanchett, Speed Racer by Emile Hirsch, and Valkyrie by Tom Cruise.
Besides his part in Forever Hold Your Peace, the Los Angeles man has recently done voice work for Call of Duty and Medal of Honor video games, coming out in 2017 and 2020, respectively.
