While some people keep their mouths shut, others have a habit of keeping others’ affairs to themselves. Although nobody like being evaluated, when it occurs at the wrong time, it can arouse feelings in us that we were unaware of.
A man named Emmett Walker got into an altercation with someone while boarding a plane in Washington, DC. The guy he was traveling with was not just biased, but downright racist while he was in the Dominican Republic.
Walker was traveling to celebrate his birthday in the Dominican Republic. He stood up and walked to the queue as the desk attendant stated that priority and first class members would be boarding shortly. Even though he had a first-class ticket, things didn’t get better after that.
Walker was behind a woman who made the decision to follow up to make sure he was in the correct line.
Walker saw right away that her question wasn’t motivated by charity; rather, it was a question of how a black man could be waiting in line for first class beside her. “Pardon me, I think you might be in the wrong line,” she said at the beginning.
He not only corrected her, but he also demonstrated the point with his first-class ticket. Then he snapped a photo so he could document the event for the world.
She asked him questions despite seeing the ticket, stating that he “must be in the military or something.”
She wasn’t the only one who thought negatively about Walker due to the hue of his skin; she was also now demeaning military personnel behind their backs.
Walker chose to leave her with the following parting remark because, by this time, he understood exactly who he was dealing with:
“Nope, I’m too huge to ever serve in the military. I’m just a wealthy ni**a.
He shared the narrative on Facebook, summarizing the exchange in full:
Her: Excuse me, but I think you might be in the wrong spot. Please let us pass. This is the priority boarding queue.
Me: is priority equivalent to first class, right?
Her: Yes, pardon me; they’ll give you a call when we board.
Me: You can rest, ma’am. I’ve been here longer and am in the right location, so you may board after me. I’ll push my first-class priority boarding card in her face.
Her: still won’t let it go We paid for our seats, so he still ought to wait; he must be in the military or something.
Me: No way, I’m too large to serve in the military. I’m simply a rich n***a???????????♂️
Everyone in the line begins to applaud, lol
Unexpectedly, once the post went public, he began to feel sorry for the woman because of the vicious abuse she was receiving.
Walker uploaded another post a day later to apologize to the woman but it was eventually taken down.
He said that he didn’t expect the original post to go viral. He just thought that it would be funny to let people know about the racist comments that were being thrown in his direction.
He admitted that waking up in paradise on his birthday was nice but he wasn’t as happy as he could have been because he caused the woman in line to have a potentially negative experience. He expressed his regret for how the situation was handled and said he wished he hadn’t done it publicly.
In the end, Walker said that he prides himself on putting himself in other people’s shoes and not simply lashing out at them. It sounds like he is somebody I would enjoy knowing.
